1. How to Apply for a New PAN Card in India

You can apply for a PAN card either online or offline.

(a). Apply Online

You can apply through

(i) NSDL (Protean) portal, or
(ii) UTIITSL portal

Both are authorized by the Income Tax Department.

Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Choose Application Form

Select the correct form based on your need:

(a) Form 49A – For Indian citizens
(b) Form 49AA – For foreign citizens

Step 2: Fill the Online Application

Step 3: Upload Documents

2. How to Make Corrections/Changes in a PAN Card

PAN changes can also be done online or offline.

(v) Paste two passport-size photographs.
(vi) Submit and pay the correction charges.
(vii) Keep the acknowledgment slip.

3. Important Notes

Aadhaar Linking

Aadhaar is mandatory for PAN application (for Indian citizens).
PAN becomes inactive if not linked with Aadhaar.

Processing Time

Normal: 7–15 working days
Sometimes longer if manual verification is needed.
