What is SIR (Special Intensive Revision) by the Election Commission?

SIR stands for Special Intensive Revision, a process conducted by the Election Commission of India to verify, update, and clean the electoral rolls in situations where a normal Summary Revision is not enough.
(1) It is carried out when:
(a) Large numbers of voters are missing from rolls
